Injury update: Barcelona relieved as key signing has ‘just a knock’
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, medical tests have been conducted on Dani Olmo’s knee, and the good news is that he has not suffered any serious injury. The tests have revealed that it is only a knock.
However, despite this, Olmo did not participate in the training session ahead of Spain’s match against Switzerland and will be absent from the game this Sunday.
In a pre-match press conference, the Spanish coach explained that the Barcelona forward had taken a hard hit during their previous game against Serbia.
Due to this, the medical staff carried out precautionary tests to ensure that there was no damage to his right knee. The results confirmed it was just a severe bruise, but Olmo will not be risked for the upcoming game against Switzerland as a safety measure.
Blessing in disguise for Barcelona
The incident took place in the 67th minute of the match against Serbia, where Olmo was involved in a challenge with a Serbian player while contesting for the ball.
The defender brought Olmo down, but surprisingly, the referee showed the Barcelona player a yellow card instead. Olmo, who was in visible pain due to the knock on his knee, continued playing until he was substituted in the 82nd minute.
Although Olmo remains with the national team, it is clear that he won’t be playing against Switzerland.
The Spanish coach emphasized during the press conference that player health is the priority and that they won’t be taking unnecessary risks with any of their players.
“Dani Olmo will not be participating in the first few minutes of training. He took a strong knock in the last game, and we’re unsure how he’ll be feeling tomorrow.
“We have two excellent forwards in Ayoze and Joselu, and they’ll be able to deliver what we need,” De la Fuente added in his remarks.
