Lamine Yamal takes aim at Nico Williams as he discusses his goal for Barcelona vs Athletic

Lamine Yamal had a little dig at good mate Nico Williams when talking through his goal for Barcelona during Saturday’s win over Athletic Club.

The teenager struck the opening goal after going past Williams and curling a shot that took a deflection on its way into the back of the net.

Yamal spoke to DAZN after the game and said he saw Nico coming but knew he wouldn’t put too much effort into trying to stop him.

“I’m very happy with the win. It was important to start well at home. We always try to think about scoring and when we have the ball we try to attack and cause danger,” he said.

“I followed the play until I saw space. I saw a bit of space and I saw Nico coming, who is not very intense in defence, and when I found space, I shot. I always look for the goal, games are won with goals and the more we score, the better.”

Yamal’s goal put Barcelona in front, although Athletic hit back from the penalty spot after Pau Cubarsi had conceded a spot-kick. However, Robert Lewandowski then struck the winner in the second half to make it a good start to life under Hansi Flick at Barca.
