Liverpool loss helps Arsenal towards perfect £51m deal as Edu plans Barca hijack

It was a quiet Easter Monday in North London as the dust settled on Arsenal’s top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City at the Etihad 24 hours earlier.

The Gunners earned an impressive point against Pep Guardiola’s side thanks to the resolute defending of Gabriel and William Salbia, who were brilliant when up against the ever-dangerous Erling Haaland.

Arsenal are not in Premier League action until Wednesday night when they face Luton Town at the Emirates. That, though, hasn’t stopped the Gunners from filling the gossip columns across the world as they continue to be linked with a whole host of players ahead of the summer transfer window.

Here, football.london looks at the latest rumours surrounding Arsenal.

Gunners could receive unplanned Martin Zubimendi boost

Xabi Alonso’s decision to turn down the opportunity to manage Liverpool in favour of staying at Bayer Leverkusen may have handed Arsenal’s pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi a substantial boost.

The Gunners are said to be keen on a deal for the 25-year-old Spaniard, who has reportedly also caught the eye of Barcelona and Bayern Munich with his performances in La Liga this term.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Zubimendi was on the list of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich if Alonso accepted the opportunity to succeed Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena. Now, though, it seems that the Gunners could have a free run at the Sociedad man as Alonso looks set to remain at Leverkusen.

FL says: Zubimendi, who has a £51m release clause, has been one of the key components of Sociedad’s push for European football this season, having missed just one La Liga game through injury.
