Man United revive interest in Barcelona heavyweight, will offer £30-40 million

It would not be a proper summer transfer window without speculations of Manchester United wanting to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Over the past two years, the Red Devils have been constantly linked with a move for the Netherlands international despite his insistence on wanting to stay at Barcelona.

This time around, though, it appeared that Manchester United had decided to pursue other targets to reinforce their midfield, but it seems that De Jong is again back on their agenda.

Manchester United want De Jong

Indeed, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have once again revived their interest in Barcelona heavyweight Frenkie de Jong.

In fact, the report states that the Premier League bigwigs have contacted the Blaugrana to inform them about their interest in the Dutchman.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Manchester United would be willing to offer a fee of around £30-40 million to secure the former AFC Ajax star’s signing in the current summer window.

De Jong has been on Manchester United’s radar for years now and the interest only solidified after the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager.

The Dutch tactician is trying to sign two of De Jong’s former Ajax teammates, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, both from Bayern Munich. In addition, United have also signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

As such, they could be planning to unite De Jong with his compatriots De Ligt and Zirkzee to create a dominant Dutch spine at the club.

De Jong is currently sidelined with an ankle injury that he sustained in April during a game against Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old remains one of Barcelona’s most sellable assets while his steep wages also make him a candidate to be offloaded given the club’s current financial situation.

However, a departure this summer appears extremely unlikely, considering his injury issue. Moreover, even if Barcelona were to consider his exit, it would take a much bigger offer than the £30-40 million that Manchester United are willing to offer.
