Marc Casado: Barcelona told me Hansi Flick was counting on me this season
Marc Casado has revealed that Barcelona made it clear Hansi Flick was counting on him this summer during contract renewal talks.
The midfielder signed a new four-year deal at the club and has been promoted to the first team where he’s been impressing with his performances.
Casado has told Cadena SER that Flick offered him a big show of faith during the summer and made it clear he would be an important player this season.
“This summer my contract was up and when I spoke to the club about the renewal, they told me that Flick was counting on me, that they wanted me in the first team at Barca,” he said.
“First he wanted to see me in person in the preseason, but that he liked what he had seen of me and that he trusted me. And from there, well, that was it. That was my idea to stay at the club and show him that I could be a valid player for the first team.”
Casado was also asked about which position is his favorite and made it clear he just wants to be out on the pitch wearing the famous Blaugrana shirt.
“What I like is to play the same way, whether I’m number eight, number six, number ten, or full-back. It doesn’t matter to me at all. What I want is to wear the Barça shirt for a long time and help the team win games and titles,”he added.
“If I were a coach, where would I play? Well, I don’t know, it depends a bit on the game. I always play more, a little further back in position, in the number six position, and well, that’s where I feel more comfortable, so to speak, because that’s where I’ve always played and I already have my movements a little clearer there. But as I said, I really enjoy playing in all positions on the pitch and I think the most important thing is to play.”
Casado’s emergence at Barcelona has seen him called into the latest Spain Under-21 squad for fixtures against Kazakhstan and Malta.
