Marc Casado graps opportunity as midfielder shines in Barcelona’s win over Girona
Marc Casado was back in the starting XI for Barcelona on Sunday against Girona and grasped the opportunity with both hands in a great outing for the youngster.
Injury to Marc Bernal has freed up a spot in Hansi Flick’s midfield and Casado will be hoping to make it his own this season after being promoted from Barcelona Atletic.
Casado’s only other start this season had come against Valencia, but he was back in the team at Montilivi and went on to put in an impressive showing that bodes well for the future.
The highlight, of course, was the quite delicious through ball he played for Pedri to run on to and make it 4-0 to Barcelona. It’s the kind of play that deserves to be watched over and over.
There was much more than that to admire though from the youngster’s performance. His positioning was spot on, he read the game well, was composed throughout and ended the game with a pass accuracy rate of 92%,
Not bad going for a player who only turned 21 on Saturday and who has made just a handful of first-team appearances. Tougher challenges obviously await but Casado has a golden chance this season to cement a place in the first team. This was a big step forward.
