‘No one better than Spain’ – Luis de la Fuente in confident mood after Italy win
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente was understandably delighted after seeing his team book their place in the last 16 of Euro 2024 by beating Italy 1-0.
Pedri and Lamine Yamal both started the game, but it was Nico Williams who stole the show with a fabulous performance on the left of the attack.
De la Fuente hurled praised at his team after the victory but urged his players to keep their feet on the ground as they head into the knockout stages.
“There is no one better than Spain, but we have to be prudent. It won’t be easy. The other teams will get to know us better, but I still say that that if we work well, there is no better team,” he told reporters.
“In my opinion, Spain have the best football in the world. But I know what this team is made of and we all know that we have not done anything yet. We have to be prudent, humble and have respect.”
Spain finish off their group stage with a clash against Albania, while Italy take on Croatia in the group’s other game.
