‘Not a pleasant situation’ – Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen not happy with Germany role
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is on international duty with Germany and admits he’s not loving playing back-up to Manuel Neuer.
The Bayern stopper is first choice for the Euro 2024 hosts, leaving Ter Stegen to play the role of deputy at this summer’s tournament.
It’s a situation that Ter Stegen is not used to, being the undisputed No. 1 at Barcelona, and he says it’s “very disappointing”.
Ter Stegen also went a step further by saying “it is not a pleasant situation” and added he “does not agree” with the decision even if he is willing to acept it.
“At the end of the day you have a responsibility to the group to help in any way you can,” he explained.
“I told the national coach that one thing is sporting and another is human, I want everyone to be able to trust me.”
The Barca stopper also made it clear he has no problem with Neuer personally, saying the pair have a “good relationship” despite the competition for places.
