Official: Barcelona confirm nature of youngster’s latest injury and recovery period

In an unfortunate turn of events, Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez suffered a fresh injury today, just after returning to group training with the rest of the team after recovering from a previous fitness problem.

Fermin had been sidelined with an injury in his left thigh since the first week of September but returned to training today, ahead of schedule, and was in contention to be available for the weekend’s clash against Villarreal.

However, the 21-year-old suffered another injury during training today, in his right leg, with Barcelona now confirming the nature of his injury and announcing the time for which he could be out.

“Fermin Lopez has injured the anterior rectus muscle of his right thigh in training this morning. The approximate downtime will be around three weeks,” the statement from the club read.

Essentially this means that Fermin will not return to action before the international break in October and will miss the six matches between now and then.

The Blaugrana are scheduled to play AS Monaco, Villarreal, Getafe, CA Osasuna, Young Boys, and Deportivo Alaves in this stretch and Fermin looks set to miss all these matches.

Having suffered a fresh blow just when he was close to making a return, the 21-year-old will be gutted and will be hoping to recover swiftly without any setback.

We wish Fermin a speedy recovery!
