Official: Barcelona confirm the contract extension of 16-year-old midfield prospect
Over the past few months, FC Barcelona have been working hard to tie down the youth prospects at the club to new contracts to secure their future.
Continuing that trend, earlier today, the Catalans announced that teenage midfield prospect Nil Vicens has signed a new contract with the club.
“The player Nil Vicens has signed, in the presence of the Director of Training Football, José Ramon Alexanco, his continuity at the Club in the youth stage,” the statement from the club read.
Vicens, who turned 16 in July, joined Barcelona from Girona last year and was part of the Cadete A setup last season.
The young midfielder finished his debut campaign at La Masia with 14 goals from 28 games for the Cadete A side.
Now part of the Juvenil setup, the youngster has signed his first professional contract. Even though the statement from the club does not specify the exact duration of the contract, Vicens is likely to have signed a three-year contract until 2027 – a norm for minor players.
Vicens follows in the footsteps of a plethora of young talent like Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, Oscar Gistau, Pedro Rodriguez, Iker Rodriguez, and Sama Nomoko, among others.
