Official: Barcelona duo Yamal, Olmo start for Spain against Serbia
Just a day after their nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Barcelona duo Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo are set to take the field for the Spanish national team against Serbia.
Spain begin the defence of their UEFA Nations League title tonight with a game against Serbia at the Rajko Mitić Stadium in Belgrade.
Yamal had finished Barcelona’s last game against Real Valladolid with a knock and even underwent medical check-ups on Wednesday.
While it was confirmed that the youngster was not injured, it was expected that Luis de la Fuente could rest the 17-year-old to carefully manage his workload.
However, the Spain boss has opted to throw the Barcelona wonderkid into the starting XI, along with the Catalans’ marquee summer signing Dani Olmo, who has been in top form over the past couple of months.
There were expectations that De la Fuente might start both Olmo and Pedri together in the side but he has opted against such a move, with the latter left out on the bench, alongside another Barcelona player in Ferran Torres.
