Official: Barcelona forward suffers foot injury in training, likely to miss US tour
Just as it was starting to look like Ansu Fati would be ready to make an impression for Barcelona in pre-season, the forward has suffered a fresh foot injury, the club have officially confirmed.
“In training today, first team player Ansu Fati suffered a foot injury. He will undergo conservative treatment in Barcelona and his return to training will be determined by his recovery time,” the statement from the club read.
The injury comes as another in a line of fitness setbacks for the 21-year-old Fati, whose development has been stunted because of the relentless physical problems he has encountered.
Fati spent the last season out on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion but failed to make an impact, with the player even suffering an injury during his time in England.
Having returned to Barça this summer, the La Masia ace was said to have made a solid impression on manager Hansi Flick and his staff in pre-season training. So much so that the club had decided to not sell him this summer.
But the injury comes as a setback for Fati as it casts doubts over his participation in the pre-season friendlies in the US – with the club statement insisting that he will continue his treatment in Barcelona.
