Official: Barcelona’s salary cap rises to €426 million from €204 million in February
Today, La Liga announced the salary cap limits for clubs after the culmination of the winter transfer window, and it is not all good news for Barcelona.
As per the official figures released, the Catalan giants’ salary cap has risen from €204 million in February this year to €426 million.
Barcelona’s salary cap has been dropping constantly over the past couple of years. This limit was €656 million in September 2022 and €648 million in February 2023, before seeing a huge drop to just €270 million last year after the summer window.
There was a further dip after the winter transfer window of 2024, with the figure being set at €204 million. Now, though, the Catalans have somewhat recovered the situation, with the new salary limit set at €426 million.
The salary cap limit is the maximum amount that the club can spend during the season after all the operations carried out in the winter and it will dictate the club’s plans of operation for the next window.
It includes spending on players, the coach, assistant coach, other coaches, and fitness coaches of the first team (eligible squad) and spending on the reserve team, the youth academy, and the other sporting sections.
The summer transfer window saw Barcelona get rid of several players as the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Clement Lenglet, Vitor Roque, Marcos Alonso, Mika Faye, Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix, and Sergi Roberto all departed.
It freed up a large chunk of the salary bill while the Catalans also made money from the sale of players such as Marc Guiu, Faye, Chadi Riad and Julian Araujo.
In addition, the club has achieved record sponsorship contracts and revenue through Barça Licensing and Merchandising (BLM).
Meanwhile, only Dani Olmo and Pau Victor were brought in as reinforcements, while Barcelona did renew the contracts of some of the players.
All this has helped the Catalans significantly improve their situation, and things could get much better by the time the winter window arrives, if they can find a solution for the Barça Studios issue and return to Camp Nou.
