OFFICIAL: Oriol Romeu joins Girona on loan from Barcelona
Barcelona have officially confirmed that midfielder Oriol Romeu has joined Girona on a season-long loan deal, it was announced on Monday.
Here is Barça’s full statement on the deal:
FC Barcelona and Girona FC have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Oriol Romeu to the latter until 30 June 2025.
Oriol Romeu came to Barça last summer after an excellent campaign in 2022/23 with Girona. The Catalan midfielder was a fixture in the blaugrana XI at the start of the season as the holding midfielder in the side. However, as the campaign progressed Romeu featured less for the blaurganes, partly due to a knee injury. In total in 2023/24 he made 37 appearances, 17 as a starter for FC Barcelona.

Romeu returns to Girona after a very unproductive spell at Barça, where he failed to live up to the expectations of filling the void left by the departure of Sergio Busquets and was eventually replaced by Andreas Christensen, who played out of position to try and give some stability to what was a crucial position in Xavi Hernández’s system.
Oriol is now back at the club where he had plenty of success before joining Barça, and he is Girona’s immediate replacement for Aleix García who joined Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the summer transfer window.
Thanks and good luck, Oriol!
