Pedri backs Barcelona prodigy for prestigious award, issues encouraging update on midfielder’s injury
Barcelona midfielder Pedri Gonzalez expedited his recovery from injury to make it back in time for the team’s league curtain-raiser against Valencia last weekend.
Despite not starting on the night, the youngster came onto the pitch in the second half and tangibly improved Barcelona’s control over the proceedings.
With him now back to complete fitness, there is hope that he will take over as the one in charge of the Catalans’ midfield for the coming season.
Pedri talks about his teammates
Interacting with his fans on the Residency platform, the Barcelona midfield ace provided updates on some of his teammates with some interesting revelations.
Commenting on Gavi’s recovery, the progress the La Masia starlet has made and his expected date to return, Pedri said, “Gavi’s recovery is going well. He still has a long way to go, but hopefully he’ll be with us soon.”
As part of the same interaction, the youngster was even asked if he thought Lamine Yamal would be crowned the next Golden Boy, to which he made it clear that he had no doubts.
“For sure.”
Increased responsibility
The one big takeaway from the ongoing transfer window is that a lot must change at Barcelona, especially at the administrative level.
The departure of Ilkay Gundogan, who was by far the team’s most consistent and fit midfielder last season, was the final nail in the coffin for many fans.
Politics aside, however, the German’s departure only served to increase the pressure on the shoulders of Pedri who will be the team’s single-most important midfielder for the upcoming campaign.
His quality and fitness, needless to say, will be scrutinized more thoroughly than ever before.
