Pep Guardiola offers fresh Joao Cancelo update after Barcelona loan
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered an update on Joao Cancelo’s future ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Cancelo is back with the Cityzens after a season on loan with Barcelona. The Portugal international is eager to stay at Barca but a deal has not yet been done.
Guardiola has been asked about Cancelo at a news conference and is not ruling out the possibility of the full-back staying at the club this season.
“João Cancelo to re-join our squad? It can happen, yes,” he told reporters.
“He’s training with us. We will see. Maybe he stays, maybe he goes on loan, maybe… I don’t know yet.
“He’s training with us, behaving really well in the training sessions.”
It’s been reported previously that Barca would be happy to have Cancelo back on another season-long loan, while City are looking for a permanent deal for the 30-year-old.
