Peter Bosz offers fresh update on PSV transfer plans for Barcelona full-back Sergiño Dest

The future of Sergiño Dest is the subject of much speculation in the Netherlands as the American full-back looked set for a permanent move to Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven after a great season on loan from Barcelona, but a serious knee injury complicated plans for all parties involved.

Barça are desperate to finalize Dest’s departure to get his salary off the books for next season and were hoping to make some extra cash if PSV were to activate the €10 million buy option in their loan agreement, but the Dutch club do not plan to spend that much on Dest given his injury status.

But PSV manager Peter Bosz revealed on Friday that the club still hopes to have Dest in the squad next season, even without activating the buy option.

The two most likely options are another loan, which won’t help Barça’s salary cap issues, or a contract buyout that ends Dest’s agreement with the Blaugrana permanently and allows Sergiño to sign with PSV as a free agent. Samuel Umtiti agreed a similar deal with Barça last summer, and that could be a route the club choose to go down again with Dest this year.

Barça must find a resolution to this issue before the transfer window opens so Dest’s salary isn’t included in next season’s accounts, so we could have an official update on Sergiño’s future very soon.
