Real Madrid shortlist Barcelona target as Leny Yoro transfer alternative

Needless to say, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona do not like each other in the slightest. In fact, the Spanish rivalry which has been dubbed as El Clasico (the classic) is perhaps the most popular derby in world football, even after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi left.

That said, the rivalry has extended far beyond the pitch. In the modern era of football, the two gigantic Spanish clubs can often be seen locking horns in the transfer window. The summer of 2024 will be no different, as Real Madrid have crossed paths with Barcelona yet again, shortlisting one of their transfer targets.

According to a report from English outlet The Sun, Real Madrid could potentially join the race to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Guehi is also a figure of interest to Barcelona and Crystal Palace value their star player at around £50m, similar to the fee paid by Bayern Munich for Michael Olise.

Marc Guehi is an exceptional Premier League defender. He is currently alongside Jude Bellingham for England as one of their best EURO 2024 performers. Gareth Southgate’s side are criticised for their attacking input but Marc Guehi has worked tirelessly alongside John Stones of Man City to ensure that England’s defence isn’t under question.

Guehi may be breaking into the mainstream limelight right now but the truth is, Crystal Palace fans have recognised his quality for some time now. Marc Guehi has been a mainstay in the Crystal Palace ranks for the last three seasons, Barring any injury or suspension, he is one of the first names on their team sheets.

Now that Marc Guehi is 23 years old, there is no surprise that he is targeted by some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Real Madrid and Barcelona. Carlo Ancelotti could certainly add to his English core alongside Jude Bellingham.

However, it must be said that Leny Yoro still appears to be top of the list for Real Madrid. However, the current Champions League and La Liga holders could wait until the summer of 2025 to sign Yoro, with the player knowing his preference to play for Real Madrid.

This is because Real Madrid are hesitant to pay the full asking price for Leny Yoro, knowing that he runs out of contract in 2025. That said, the £50m asking price for Marc Guehi suits Real Madrid more than the financial-struck Barcelona.

Do you think Real Madrid should sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace?
