CalcioMercato report that Barcelona have reached out to Atalanta over a deal for Ederson, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over recent months.

Recently, a lot has been written about Tottenham’s search for a number six, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expected to be on his way out of the club.

The Mirror suggested last week that Ange Postecoglou’s men have identified Ederson as the man to replace the Dane, with the report stating that Newcastle are also on the Brazilian’s trail.

However, it was explained that it would be quite difficult to sign the midfielder as Atalanta would not want to let him go after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Barcelona make approach for Ederson

CalcioMercato have now revealed that Barca have ‘started initial contacts’ over a deal for Ederson and have also spoken to the player’s entourage to understand his plans for next season.

The report says that while the midfielder is happy at Bergamo, his head could be turned by the Catalan side’s approach.

However, the publication adds that Atalanta would want around €45m-€50m (£38.3m- £42.5m) for Ederson and that those costs ‘are only sustainable for Premier League clubs’ this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would be able to financially outmuscle Barca, who have to sell some players before buying. However, I am not sure if Spurs will be able to convince Ederson to swap a Champions League side in Atalanta for a Europa League side.
