Report: Barcelona own 50% rights of breakout La Liga star, could push to buy him back

Oscar Mingueza has taken La Liga by storm so far this season playing for Celta Vigo.

In just four games for the Galician side, the 25-year-old has scored two goals and provided three assists and has stood out as one of the best players in the league.

Mingueza’s high-quality displays have not gone unnoticed as the youngster received a first-ever call-up to Luis de La Fuente’s Spanish team in the ongoing international break.

Barcelona retain control

According to MARCA, the Blaugrana still have control over the future of the Spanish star.

After all, the player was an integral part of the team under Ronald Koeman and only left in the summer of 2022 when it became clear that Xavi did not count on him.

While indeed the full-back is contractually obligated to Celta Vigo until 2026, Barcelona retain 50% of the player’s rights and are thus entitled to half of any transfer fee should the player leave Celta Vigo.

Given that his release clause stands at €20 million, they can expect a windfall of close to €10 million if the player moves for greener pastures.

Moreover, Barcelona even have the preferential option to buy back the player should Celta Vigo opt to sell him, leaving the club with an interesting offer.

Pressed in the right-back position after failing to secure Joao Cancelo’s services, Barcelona could use a fresh pair of legs to back Jules Kounde in the department.

Should Mingueza continue his impressive run and the financial situation improve for the winter transfer window, the ex-Barcelona player could return to the club as a handy option.
