Report – How Hansi Flick will affect Joan Laporta’s future at Barcelona

Journalist Ivan San Antonio has shared through SPORT that Joan Laporta’s future as Barcelona’s president heavily depends on the team’s performance under the guidance of Hansi Flick.

According to the reporter, Flick’s success or failure will be directly related to Laporta’s presidency. This is because, with the club’s financial situation in shambles, Laporta can hope to quiet the rising criticism if Flick’s Barcelona does well next season.

Interestingly, the journalist draws a parallel to the success stories of Luis Enrique and Josep Maria Bartomeu in 2015, suggesting that if Flick can achieve similar success, Laporta will have some respite.

Barcelona’s condition is dire

It is no secret that the club’s financial health is dire, and Barcelona are barely hanging on at an institutional and social level.

The president cannot afford to explain the harsh realities of the club’s situation to the public or admit to Deco that the current efforts are in vain due to a lack of funds.

To turn things around, everyone knows that the team needs new players who can bring excitement and hope to the fans. These players don’t necessarily need to guarantee titles but should at least show promise and passion, especially during the summer matches.

Nico Williams is one such player who could make a difference and signing a pivot is also a necessity. However, Barcelona lack the funds to pay his release clause which is worth €58 million, and Athletic Club are not willing to negotiate.

On the other hand, Barcelona are also facing troubles in terms of offering attractive salaries unless they find creative financial solutions, similar to the approach they took with signing players like Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, or Vitor Roque.

The strategy would involve spending money that the club has not yet received, essentially activating financial levers to make these deals possible.

An example is the Libero replacement investment company, which, when it materialises, will help cover existing financial gaps. As of today, selling off parts of the club is the only way for Barcelona to end the situation they are in.
