Report – Reason why Barcelona have been eager to finalise attacking starlet’s signing
FC Barcelona are eager to fortify their frontline this summer transfer window. While Nico Williams remains their top priority, they have also recently secured an agreement for the signing of Pau Victor.
Pau Victor of Girona had been a key target for the Catalan giants, especially after his impressive performances during his loan spell with Barça Atletic last season.
His time with the reserve team showcased his goalscoring instincts and potential within the club’s playing style, making him a highly sought-after addition to strengthen the squad.
Now, having reportedly secured an agreement to sign him for just over €3 million, SPORT has come out to elaborate on why sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick are eager to have him within the team’s dynamics this season.
A goalscorer through and through
As per the report, Barcelona admire Victor for his goal-scoring instincts and maturity in the final third. Last season, he was the top scorer in the Primera RFEF, netting 20 goals and surpassing the 19-goal record set by Ferran Jutgla two seasons ago.
Moreover, the 22-year-old striker has a knack for stepping up in crucial moments and scoring decisive goals.
This season, he again turned up in big moments, including key strikes against Ibiza in both legs of the promotion playoff semi-finals and various other important goals.
Furthermore, Victor is versatile and capable of playing both as a striker and a winger. At Barça Atletic, he has demonstrated his flexibility by playing both as a ‘9’ and on the flanks, partnering effectively with players like Diego Percan and Marc Guiu.
Pau Victor never made a big breakthrough under Xavi’s tutelage even though he was called up to train by the former manager. But opportunities for him in the first team are bound to rise following his permanent signing.
With Robert Lewandowski needing to rest regularly at age 35, Roque’s future up in the air, and Guiu’s departure, Victor’s time to shine could arrive.
