Robert Lewandowski ‘convinced’ he’ll score more goals than last season for Barcelona

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is feeling good ahead of the new La Liga season and says he’s “convinced” he will score more goals than in the 2023-24 campaign.

Lewandowski was Barcelona’s top scorer last season and finished with 19 La Liga goals from 35 appearances under Xavi.

However, the Poland international is in no doubt he will beat that tally this time around.

“I am convinced that I will score more than last year, which was not a very good year for me and not for the team either,” he told reporters.

“I know Flick very well. He is a coach who comes with new ideas and needs time to implement them here.

“He is doing a good job. The important thing is that he is committed to vertical and offensive play, and any striker benefits from that.”

Lewandowski is also confident Barca can challenge Real Madrid for the title even with Kylian Mbappe having arrived from PSG.

“Real Madrid won the Champions League and La Liga, but we are ready to compete against them; it is a challenge for us,” he said.

“[Mbappe] is not a striker like me, he is a different type of profile, but he is an added motivation.”

Barcelona will come up against Real Madrid as part of their United States pre-season tour, although Mbappe will miss out as he’s not made the trip with his new team.
