Ronald Koeman offers fresh update on Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong’s ‘worrying’ ankle injury
Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has offered an update on Frenkie de Jong who remains out of action due to an ankle injury.
De Jong has been out since April and been left out of the Dutch squad once again as he continues his recovery from injury.
Koeman admits that it’s a worrying situation and says that De Jong is still not ready to make his comeback.
“That is worrying. I understand that he is getting better and better, but he is not yet fully fit,” he told reporters.
“He has had three nasty ankle injuries in a row. There is damage there and it takes time to recover. It takes a long time, but let’s hope that he recovers fully.”
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has said he hopes to have De Jong available after the international break, amid speculation he requires surgery, but there’s certainly no set date yet for when we’ll see the midfielder play again.
