Ronaldinho’s son set to sign for Burnley after leaving Barcelona
Ronaldinho’s son João Mendes is set to sign for English Championship side Burnley following a spell with Barcelona.
Mendes joined Barcelona in March 2023 after a successful trial with the Catalan giants and linked up with the club’s Juvenil A side.
However, we haven’t heard much about Mendes since then and it has now emerged that he will play for Scott Parker’s side in the 2024-25 campaign.
Burnley are back in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last season under Vincent Kompany. The Belgian has since left to manage Bayern Munich in what was something of a shock move.
New boss Parker has been talking about the move:
“This is a player we see as a development player and a project in that sense,” he told reporters.
“As of right now the paperwork has not been signed but there is definitely something in it for sure. I get the excitement around it but I think it would be unfair to heap a huge amount of pressure on a young boy coming here.
“He knows why he is coming here in terms of development so I wouldn’t want to heap more pressure than that which is already on him.”
It’s certainly an interesting move for the youngster and he’ll be hoping he can make an impact in England with the Clarets after leaving the club where his famous father made such a lasting impression.
