Spain boss Luis de la Fuente talks Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024 & the Olympics

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has refused to rule out Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi playing in both the Olympics and Euro 2024 this summer.

The duo are in the provisional Spain squad for Euro 2024 along with team-mates Pedri, Ferran Torres and and Fermin Lopez.

De la Fuente was quizzed on whether the two youngsters could play in both competitions by The Athletic and came up with the following response.

“We are just thinking about the Euros,” De La Fuente said. “What happens next, well the Olympics coach is Santi Denia. He and his staff are working very hard. I know as I did myself in that moment.

“They know much better than me the circumstances in their team. So when the Euros are over, the situation will be weighed up, and decisions made over which players go (to the Olympics) or not. This is not the moment. I am just focusing on the Euros.”

It’s not really the answer Barca will want to hear ahead of what could be a busy summer for their players. It has been previously been reported the two players will only go to the Olympics if they don’t see much game time in Germany.
