Spain offer initial update on Pedri’s knee injury after Euro 2024 win over Germany

Spain have offered an initial update on Pedri’s injury after the Barcelona midfielder was forced off in the opening minutes of La Roja’s Euro 2024 clash with Germany.

Pedri was injured by a strong challenge from Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and looked clearly upset as he departed the pitch.

Spain have said initial examinations show Pedri has suffered an internal lateral sprain in his left knee. Further tests will be done to determine the severity of the injury.

The initial feeling is that Pedri will not require surgery and he could be out for anything from two to eight weeks – depending on how badly his knee is sprained.

What does seem certain is that Pedri will not play any further part in Euro 2024 for Spain. La Roja play again on Tuesday against either Portugal or France.

Spain ended up beating Germany 2-1 after extra-time. Barcelona target Mikel Merino popped up with the winner just as it seemed the game would be decided on penalties.
