Three Barcelona players’ future take U-turns with Hansi Flick’s takeover

Hansi Flick’s arrival at Barcelona is poised to bring significant changes to the future of many players, with the German manager expected to make important decisions regarding the team roster.

When Xavi was in charge, there were reports suggesting that several key players, including Ronald Araujo and even Robert Lewandowski, might leave the club.

However, with Flick now at the helm, he intends to thoroughly assess the squad before making any final decisions about player departures or stays.

On that note, let’s delve into the situations of three players whose futures have taken a turn since Flick’s appointment.

Under Xavi’s management, it was almost certain that veteran defender Sergi Roberto would remain with the club for another season.

Recently, however, this plan seems to have changed, as Barcelona appear to be reconsidering his contract extension.

Roberto is reportedly frustrated and upset with Barcelona due to this unexpected shift. Earlier in the season, the Barcelona board assured Roberto that his contract would be renewed regardless of Xavi’s status at the club.

Now, due to ongoing financial challenges, Barcelona are no longer prioritising his contract renewal. As a result, he might have to wait longer to know his fate, and there is a significant possibility that he could leave before the new season begins.

Robert Lewandowski staying put

A few weeks ago, there were rumours that Xavi had attempted to offload Robert Lewandowski, even urging the board to try and sell the Polish striker during the summer transfer window.

However, Flick’s arrival has dramatically altered Lewandowski’s situation. The German manager is eager to work with Lewandowski once again and despite the forward’s age, Flick believes he can maximize Lewandowski’s potential.

It is worth noting that during Flick’s previous tenure, Lewandowski had an outstanding record, scoring 83 goals and providing 22 assists in just 71 matches. This is why the manager is hoping for a similar performance under his leadership.

Vitor Roque’s prospects

Previously, there were reports that Barcelona might consider letting Vitor Roque go based on Xavi’s recommendations.

Although top European teams are still showing interest in the Brazilian, Flick is likely to give Roque a chance to prove himself before making any decisions about his future.

Within Roque’s camp, there is a sense of optimism about working with Flick. They hope that the changes brought by the new manager will offer Roque better opportunities to showcase his talent and secure a more prominent role in the team.
