‘Total leader’ – Rafa Marquez praises Marc Casado and tells Barcelona star how to improve
Marc Casado has received plenty of plaudits already this season, with Rafa Marquez the latest to share his thoughts on the Barcelona midfielder.
Marquez, who knows Casado well from his time in charge of Barcelona Atletic, has hailed the midfielder’s talent and character after watching him shine in the first team.
“His attitude, his character and his desire to improve every day. He has a very winning and competitive mentality. That’s what has given him the opportunity. Flick saw that and decided to keep him from the start, and we have to give him credit for that,” he told Cadena SER.
“He is very emotional, competitive, effusive… he would celebrate any game, anything he won, and that is where his character of wanting to succeed is evident.”
Yet Marquez also thinks the 21-year-old can still get even better and explained where the midfielder can up his game.
“He has a lot of room for improvement. I think his level of confidence allows him to dare to do things we haven’t seen him do before,” he added.
“He never stops fighting. He is very competitive. When things go wrong, he is very positive. He is a total leader.
“His enthusiasm leads him to lose his bearings. He wants to cover too much space and leaves his zone. He needs to be more positional and they are gradually understanding this.”
Casado has featured in 11 of Barca’s 13 La Liga games so far this season, starting nine times, and will be hoping to continue in the XI despite the return to fitness of Frenkie de Jong and Gavi.
