“Very positive” – Hansi Flick gives his verdict on Barcelona’s United States preseason tour

Barcelona’s tour of the United States ended on Tuesday night with a defeat on penalties to AC Milan after a very entertaining 2-2 draw in regulation, with yet another strong team performance and plenty of positive signs shown by Hansi Flick’s young troops.

This preseason has shown a clear change in style from Xavi Hernández’s time in charge, and the Blaugrana already look very well organized and know exactly what to do with and without the ball, which is even more impressive considering that Flick has been in charge for less than a month while still missing several key pieces due to injury or international commitments.

As the Catalans return home to continue their preparations for the start of the season, Flick was asked after the friendly against Milan to take stock of what he’s seen so far in preseason and the coach seems very happy with the results.

“The balance of the tour has been very positive. There are many young players with enormous quality. Some have evolved and are adapting to what we want to achieve. I want us to enjoy ourselves defending and attacking. There are 10 days to go until the start of the league season, we are in a good direction but we can still improve a lot.”

Barça have one final preseason game in the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy against AS Monaco, followed by the La Liga opener against Valencia at Mestalla next Saturday. And it looks as though the coach believes the team is in very good shape to start the real season.
