Viral photo shows Lionel Messi meeting Lamine Yamal as a baby

Four photos from a viral photoshoot featuring none other than the GOAT, Lionel Messi, and a player who many have tipped as his successor, Lamine Yamal, have emerged.

Amazingly, the two met when Yamal was a five-month-old baby and Messi had just turned 20 years old. Currently, Messi is 37 and Yamal turns 17 next week. Messi is in the Copa America semifinals with his beloved Argentina, while Yamal is set to play for Spain in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals against Germany.

The pictures show Messi helping bathe the baby alongside Yamal’s parents. The authenticity of the photos were confirmed by the youngster’s father on social media, while Diario SPORT has given light to how this meeting even came to be.

It was for a yearly calendar published in those times by SPORT, in which FC Barcelona footballers appeared for free to raise money for charity.

Thirty-five thousand copies of the calendar were printed, with each selling for 4.50 euros. The money helped various charities, notably XICS, a series of after-school centers that FC Barcelona helped start, and UNICEF.

According to a press release, the children featured in the calendar were part of the “XICS de Santa Coloma de Gramenet,” one of the XICS after school centers in the Santa Rosa neighborhood of the Barcelona metropolitan area.

It’s unclear if Yamal himself was a pupil at XICS or if he was part of another charity.

Regardless, the photo has trended massively on social media, with many saying that it was destiny that brought the pair together for the young star to “bless” the future star.
