‘We are happy with his return’ – Barcelona sporting director Deco optimistic about Ansu Fati’s comeback
Ansu Fati is close to coming back. The Barcelona forward might have to wait a few more days, but it won’t be long until the number 10 makes his season debut after suffering a foot injury in preseason.
Fati spent last season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion and continued to struggle with injuries, but there is hope that he can be healthy enough to enjoy a career resurgence under Hansi Flick and return to the form that made him one of the most promising prospects in recent Barça history during his incredible first year at the senior level.
Sporting director Deco was asked about Ansu’s imminent comeback at an event this week, and sounded optimistic about Fati’s chances to return to his best form.
“He is one of our players. We are happy with his return. Ansu has suffered a lot with injuries in recent years, but he is 21 years old and has his whole career ahead of him.
“He has a good chance of being the Ansu we all knew. The Ansu we have seen shining at Barça, that’s why we are delighted that he is at Barça.”

Barça made no attempts to hide their desire to move on from Fati this summer but never found a partner for a permanent transfer, and Flick eventually decided to keep Ansu instead of sending him out on loan again.
Flick reportedly plans to try Ansu as a striker to see if he can be a capable backup to Robert Lewandowski, and time will tell if Fati can be healthy enough to earn a regular role on the team either as a starter or a first option off the bench.
