Xavi on Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona future: ‘We’ll decide at the end of the season’

One of the many storylines surrounding Barcelona as we approach the end of the season is the future of Robert Lewandowski, who has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia for over a year now and will be 36 years old in the summer.

The Polish striker struggled mightily for all of 2023 but has rediscovered his best football this year, and he made it clear after scoring a hat-trick in Monday’s win over Valencia that he has no plans to leave the Blaugrana this summer.

But there is still a lot of debate surrounding his place in the side due to his age and poor performances in recent big matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, and many fans are calling for the Pole to be sold at the end of the season.

Xavi Hernández was asked about Lewandowski’s situation in a press conference on Friday, and he gave an interesting answer that certainly creates some doubt about Lewy’s stauts as we head into the summer.

“If he understands criticism, he has to understand if it comes from the coach. We value Lewandowski a lot and as for the future, we will decide at the end of the season.”

Xavi’s answer certainly leaves a little room for interpretation regarding his feelings on the player’s future, and one could argue he wouldn’t be opposed to Lewandowski’s departure if it happens.

Lewandowksi’s situation might have a huge impact on Vitor Roque’s future at Barça as well, so this story is certainly one to watch carefully in the next few weeks.
