Xavi set to hold talks with Premier League club over becoming manager just days after Barcelona exit

Xavi is set to have a meeting with a Premier League side following his Barcelona dismissal.

Xavi is set to hold talks with a Premier League club just days after his Barcelona dismissal, according to stunning reports.

Barca have relieved Xavi of his managerial duties as he takes charge of the club for the final time in tonight’s La Liga clash against Sevilla.

He was contracted until 2025, but president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco informed the legendary midfielder of the club’s decision as he was praised for his reaction to the sacking.

In an open letter posted on social media, Xavi said: “It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I am very proud after two and a half years at the head of a dressing room that has been like a second family.

“From Sunday I will be just one more Barca fan, in the stands.

“Because before being a player or a coach I am a Barcelona fan and I only want the best for the club in my life, which will always have me at its disposal.”

But Xavi could make a swift return to management as Pedro Almeida claims Chelsea will hold a meeting with the 44-year-old to ‘evaluate the possibility’ of him becoming the club’s new head coach.

The Premier League side are without a manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, who left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent after just one season in charge.

He led the Blues to a sixth-place finish in the league this season.

Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi, who is the odds-on favourite, and another candidate, which is being kept secret, are among the managers in the running to replace Pochettino.

Xavi could be the secret manager on their shortlist.

The World Cup winner began his management career in Qatar with Al Sadd before returning to Barca as their boss following a trophy-laden spell as a player.
