Dani Alves News: Dani Alves: Lionel Messi’s ex-Barcelona teammate sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. Know in detail

Former Brazilian footballer and FC Barcelona legend Dani Alves has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison, reports ‘Forbes’. A top court in the Spanish city of Catalonia has found the former teammate of Lionel Messi guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022. The court has also ordered Alves to pay $162,990 to the victim as compensation. After his release from prison, the footballer will have to complete five years’ worth of probation.

Delivering the judgment in the high-profile case, the court said, “The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the plaintiff, to consider the rape proven.”

Arrested in January 2023

The former Barcelona defender was arrested in January last year and has been held on remand since. The prosecutor demanded a nine-year prison term for Alves, who said the sex was consensual.
