Eight Barcelona prospects training with first team ahead of Saudi trip for Spanish Super Cup


FC Barcelona will be on a flight to Saudi Arabia later today as they get set to defend their Spanish Super Cup crown this week.

The Blaugrana are scheduled to play CA Osasuna on Thursday night, with the winner set to face one of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the finals at the weekend.

With the team set to fly out later today, Xavi is overseeing the final training session before releasing the squad list that will be travelling to the Middle East for the Spanish Super Cup.

Eight youth prospects called up

And, Gerard Romero is reporting that Barcelona manager Xavi has called up as many as eight youth team prospects to train with the senior team ahead of the Spanish Super Cup.

Indeed, Hector Fort, Marc Guiu, Gerard Martin, Ander Astralaga, Diego Kochen, Marc Casado, Pau Cubarsi, and Mamadou Mbacke are all part of the first-team training session today.

The likes of Astralaga, Cubarsi, Casado, Fort, and Guiu have become regulars in first-team training sessions in recent weeks.

In fact, Fort even started Barça’s last game against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey while Guiu has already scored two senior goals.

Along with them, left-back Gerard Martin and defender Mbacke are also training with the first-team squad, with all expected to be on the flight to Riyadh.

Meanwhile, Gavi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marcos Alonso, and Inigo Martinez are all ruled out while Pedri and Joao Cancelo are also doubts, although the duo is expected to fly to Saudi Arabia with the rest of the group.
