Xavi and Laporta to hold crucial meeting – Barcelona’s future hinges on end-of-season decision

According to a report from Catalunya Radio, Barcelona manager Xavi and President Joan Laporta will meet on Sunday to decide on Xavi’s future in a bid to make a firm decision at the end of the season.

The report indicates that Xavi was unable to meet with the president this Friday. The club’s leadership is not planning to make any major decisions this weekend, which is filled with important events.

Xavi still has no clear indication that Laporta wants to replace him for the next season. After returning from Almeria and spending hours in his office at the sports complex, Xavi tried to arrange a meeting with the president but was turned down.

They have only agreed to meet on Sunday, which coincides with the visit of Rayo Vallecano to Montjuic.

No conversation between Xavi and Laporta yet

Sources from Barcelona and those close to Xavi have denied any recent phone conversations or face-to-face meetings between the two, aiming to calm the tension caused by the manager’s recent comments

The coach and president will share their thoughts within the next 48 hours as they usually do after each match.

They need to meet in person for a thorough discussion, but no date is set yet. No immediate changes are expected in the coming hours as well.

Barcelona will not make a hurried decision

Following a meeting between Laporta and the board of directors on Wednesday, they decided to postpone any decisions about Xavi’s future until the end of the season.

Xavi’s comments before the Almeria-Barcelona game, where he lowered expectations due to the club’s financial issues, upset Laporta and some officials within the team, who saw it as lacking ambition.

Furthermore, the absence of Laporta and Deco during the Almeria game further fueled speculation about Xavi’s future next season and despite the delay, it is said that changes could still happen, and Xavi’s position is indeed at risk following his statements.
