Transfer Rumors and News

Barcelona already working on the renewal of 20-year-old La Masia jewel

Barcelona are gearing up for a busy summer ahead and the club’s key mantra will be: “Out with the old, in with the new”.

Keeping that in mind, one of Barcelona’s priorities will be to secure the future of youth players who are ready to make an impact at the highest level of football.

To that end, Barcelona are already working on several deals to renew the contracts of Hector Fort, Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal, among others.

Barcelona eye renewal of Ander Astralaga

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona have now set its sights on Ander Astralaga, who has impressed onlookers with his performances at Barça Athletic.

A goalkeeper by trade, Astralaga is a regular for Rafa Marquez’s setup at Barça Athletic.

Standing at 1.90m, Astralaga is a physically imposing goalkeeper, which, coupled with his impressive performances in youth competitions, have caught the attention of the senior team management.

Barcelona, therefore, are keen on extending the youngster’s contract, knowing he could be destined to become the next big star. Barça may also loan Astralaga this summer, especially if Barça Athletic fail to achieve promotion to the second division this season.

Barcelona’s goalkeeping department right now

While Astralaga’s future looks promising, Barcelona currently has a strong goalkeeping department.

Veteran Marc-Andre ter Stegen remains the undisputed number one, consistently proving his world-class ability. Barça also has another talented young goalkeeper in Iñaki Peña, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

The club’s strategy seems to be one of maintaining a balance between experience and youthful potential. Ter Stegen’s presence provides stability and leadership, while Astralaga and Peña represent the future.

Renewing Astralaga’s contract would allow him to continue his development within the Barcelona system, potentially under the tutelage of ter Stegen himself.
