Barcelona keeping tabs on 19-year-old Benfica striker ‘similar to Joao Felix’

Barcelona have two of the best youth strikers in world football in 18-year-old Vitor Roque and 17-year-old Marc Guiu. Both players have done exceedingly well in the limited time they have been given with two goals this season across competitions.

For Roque, the goals have come in the last two matches. The first of which was the winner against Osasuna, and the second this weekend against Deportivo Alaves, just before getting sent off.

Meanwhile, Guiu scored the winner against Athletic Club with a superb chipped finish. He then added a second to his tally against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League, despite the team losing 3-2 away from home.

Barcelona are hoping that these two supremely talented youngsters can take over from Robert Lewandowski, who is already showing signs of slowing down.

They have also their eyes set on other teams in Europe, including 19-year-old Benfica striker Jose Miguel Melro, as per reports from MARCA. They are monitoring his progress with the U-21 Benfica side.

Melro is expected to be the next best forward coming out of the Benfica youth academy that oh-so-often produces and hones the best talent in European football.

The Portuguese has 13 goals in 16 matches for the Benfica reserve side. The report adds that his playing style resembles one of Barcelona’s own currently in Joao Felix.

Melro’s contract expires in 2025, and a move away from Portugal could be on the cards for him as early as this summer, with several teams in the first division interested in signing him.

Barcelona, too, could force a move from Benfica, who are at the risk of losing the teenager on a free transfer, or worse a move to one of their rivals in the top flight.
