Aubameyang talks Barcelona stint, title chances, Xavi, Klopp: “Would be incredible if he could come”

In his short managerial career, Xavi has managed to turn around the situation of innumerable players from a helpless state to their glorious best. One such name who made an astounding impact as a mid-season signing for Barcelona was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In just 17 appearances for the club in the 2021-22 season, the veteran striker did away with all the negative news around his name at Arsenal. He scored 11 goals and provided one duration in just La Liga that season, helping the team finish second after a horrible start to the season.

Speaking to Gerard Romero on Jijantes earlier today, the Gabonese striker revealed the reason behind his short stint at Barcelona to be the club’s precarious financial situation and added that he would have loved to have spent more years at the Catalan capital.

“I think the problem for me not continuing at Barça was the financial issue. I was one of the few players that the club could sell, otherwise, I think I could have stayed for more years.”

Adding on whether he still saw his departure with a pinch of salt or if he felt hard done by the club’s decision at the time, he said,

“I don’t have any reproaches for Barça, that’s life. I spent little time there but the most important thing is the good memories I have left with me.”

The former Barcelona striker was then asked about the club’s relatively poor form this season and whether it was realistic to expect them to lift silverware amidst the jeopardy.

“The season is not over yet for Barça. There is still La Liga and the Champions League. The team has suffered but they have to give everything to win something. Xavi is a great person, we have to trust him,” he said, refusing to give up on his former employers.

Finally, Aubameyang revealed his take on how Jurgen Klopp would fit in as a replacement for Xavi, although the Liverpool manager is still a sizeable distance away from taking over at the Catalan club.

“Klopp gives you everything, energy, he has won great titles, he is a good coach. If there is a chance for Barça he is a good option, I was very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if he could come.”
