Paper Talk: Barcelona go for Nico Williams, Ten Hag tempts De Jong

Saturday’s papers are getting excited about Barcelona’s plans for the summer transfer window with some familiar faces on the front pages in Spain.

Diario Sport on leading on a certain Athletic Club star with the headline: “Nico Williams: Hots Up”. The talk is that if Barca sign a pivot, they will then go for the winger.

Barca have decided that Williams is the best man for the club due to his profile, price age and explosiveness.

Elsewhere, it appears that Mundo Deportivo have started up their annual Frenkie de Jong to leave Barcelona campaign. Once again the Dutch connection is mentioned with the headline: “Ten Hag tempts De Jong.”

All of which is kind of interesting given that Manchester United appear in an even bigger mess than Barcelona right now. There’s even very little guarantee Ten Hag will even be in charge at Old Trafford by the time the new season swings around.

Yet MD reckon Barca want try to sell De Jong if he does not accept a new contract offer that’s on the table. The club are also willing to accept a decent offer for the midfielder because that could pave the wave to signing Martin Zubimendi or Joshua Kimmich.

Meanwhile, De Jong has spent the last few summers denying exit rumors and insisting he’s happy at Barca. He may end up doing the same again this year.
