Barcelona superstar suspects club putting pressure to lower his salary or leave – report

Back in 2022, Barcelona tried hard to offload Frenkie de Jong and even reached an agreement with Manchester United over a transfer, but the player did not want to leave.

At the time, there were reports of the club putting pressure indirectly on the Dutchman by leaking his contract details and even playing him in an unfamiliar position during pre-season to force him to either lower his salary or leave.

Lewandowski suspects the same

Now, according to journalist Helena Condis, Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski suspects that Barcelona might be trying a similar tactic with him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Lewandowski, who endured a slow start to the season but has bounced back strongly in the second half of the season, is one of the highest earners at the club.

In fact, the Poland captain’s salary for the next season is understood to be the highest of his contract with the club.

Given the Catalans’ need to shave off a sizeable chunk of their salary bill, one or two major sales are believed to be on the cards.

Recent days have seen a spike in the rumours of a possible exit for Lewandowski, who is a player that has a lot of market in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

Lewandowski not looking to leave

However, Lewandowski is very clear on the matter as far as his future is concerned. The Poland striker has no intentions of leaving Barcelona at this point.

In fact, it has already been reported that the former Bayern Munich icon has already rejected a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabia.

The idea is for him to see out his contract in Barcelona and possibly continue to stay in the Catalan capital even after he hangs up his boots.

It is being reported that Lewandowski’s wife is also planning to open her dance school in the area. So, an exit, at this point appears unlikely, and it remains to be seen if Barcelona do revert to pressure tactics to force him out or to take a pay cut.
