FC Barcelona Makes Decision On Pedri Future, Reports Mundo Deportivo

FC Barcelona has made a key decision on Pedri’s future according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources.

The midfielder is currently sidelined thanks to a reoccurrence of the right thigh knock which also put him on the sicklist back in August.

This development meant that for the third consecutive season, the Spain international will not play in over 50% of his team’s games.

According to AS, the trend hasn’t gone unnoticed by the club’s board who didn’t rule out possibly selling the 21-year-old in the aftermath of his latest setback, which occurred during the first half a 0-0 draw with Athletic Club in San Mames.

If a report from Mundo Deportivo is accurate, however, this might not have been entirely true.

Or alternatively, figures such as president Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco have changed their tune on what steps to take with the undoubtedly talented youngster.

While Pedri faces a race against time to feature in his maiden Champions League knockout game for the Blaugrana, and could at least make the squad for the first leg of a quarterfinal clash against Paris Saint Germain in the French capital on Wednesday, the Catalan newspaper reveals that Barca top brass has made a key decision on his future.

MD explains that Barca has already reached out to the player’s camp to communicate that it is interested in extending his contract.

Pedri has a deal that runs until mid-2026, which was penned following his astonishing rise to the first team in 2021, but he is still viewed as a “structural” key player vital to the club’s long-term future.

To this end, Barca wants to secure him further with fresh terms that could nail Pedri down until at least the turn of the next decade, and closer to his 30th birthday.

Given Pedri’s upbringing as a Culer, and the son of a diehard fan who founded a Barca supporters club known as a “peña” on the island of Tenerife, there should be no trouble getting him to sign on the dotted line and commit more of his future to an outfit he joined from Las Palmas in 2019.
