Barcelona’s imminent new arrival will sign a 2+1 contract until 2027
Just a while ago, reports emerged confirming that Guido Rodriguez is set to become the first summer signing for FC Barcelona in 2024.
Indeed, the 30-year-old Argentine is understood to have signed a pre-contract agreement to join Barcelona as a free agent in July, after his contract with Real Betis expires.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has corroborated the claims of an agreement between Rodriguez and Barcelona and provided further details about the situation.
Agreement for two years with an option for another
As per the update from Romano, Barcelona and Guido Rodriguez have had a verbal agreement in place for two weeks already.
However, for the Argentine international to formally sign a contract, the Catalans are waiting for Financial Fair Play approval.
But the deal is understood to be as good as done with only the final formal steps remaining to be taken.
Furthermore, Romano states that Rodriguez will be signing a two-year contract with Barcelona that runs until 2026.
The 30-year-old defensive midfielder’s deal will also contain the option for an additional year, which would prolong his stay until 2027.
All in all, Barcelona seem to have secured an experienced defensive midfielder with a proven pedigree in La Liga and a World Cup winner on a free transfer.
Rodriguez’s arrival will not impact the Catalans’ pursuit of another ‘top’ pivot, with the South American being seen as a direct replacement for the exit-bound Oriol Romeu.
Despite his arrival, Barcelona will still try to sign one of Martin Zubimendi or Joshua Kimmich to further reinforce the defensive pivot position.
