Two gifted 15-year-old La Masia gems tipped to become the future of Barcelona

Barcelona duo Guille Fernandez and Toni Fernandez are making waves at La Masia. Both 15-year-olds happen to be cousins, each showcasing their talent in different positions, dominating the midfield and the forward position.

This past weekend, Guille became the youngest debutant to ever play for Barcelona Atletic and Toni happens to hold the distinction of having already trained with the senior team under Xavi.

There’s something unique about the two

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, their parents are brothers, and their mothers are sisters, which explains why they share the same name and have developed both personally and in football together.

Toni, a rising star in international youth football, has already made waves at the Under-15, Under-16, and Under-17 levels. His primary position is as a centre-forward and but can operate in other roles in attack.

Despite his young age, he is already competing at a higher level than many of his peers, representing Spain in youth competitions. Originally slated to play for Barcelona’s Cadete A team, this season he is splitting his time between the Juvenil A and B squads.

Within Barcelona’s ranks, he is considered one of the most promising talents, following in the footsteps of his cousin Guille. Recently, Xavi even had him training with the senior squad, recognizing his potential.

Guille Fernandez, meanwhile, is regarded as the next most exciting talent coming through after Lamine Yamal. So, it did not come as a surprise to see him break the latter’s record of being the youngest-ever debutant for Barça Atletic.

Difficulties despite the talent

Meanwhile, Rafa Marquez, familiar with Fernandez from training sessions with the reserve team, acknowledges his talent, though breaking into Barcelona Atletic might be challenging given the stiff competition and their current form.

However, it is crucial to temper expectations and proceed cautiously with young players like these two. Nonetheless, the bright side at Barcelona is that La Masia continues to produce remarkable talent.

The Fernandez cousins lead the pack of upcoming stars, and it is only a matter of time before they start knocking on the doors of the senior team.
