Barcelona would have to shell out €25 million+ for 25-year-old centre-forward – report

Barcelona are understood to be keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar’s Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis, as per reports in England. The 25-year-old forward is also said to be on the radars of Chelsea and Fulham.

Pavlidis has been with AZ since 2021, having joined from fellow Dutch side Willem II. The Greek international is enjoying a fine start to the 2023/24 campaign, having netted 22 goals from 27 games in all competitions.

Pavlidis’ exploits have seemingly attracted interest from clubs across Europe, with Barça, Chelsea, Fulham, and AC Milan understood to be monitoring him.

Pavlidis would cost in excess of €25 million

Building on that, SPORT’s Tomas Andreu is reporting that given the rising interest in Pavlidis, his transfer price would be greater than €25 million if AZ opt to cash in on him in the immediate future.

Such a figure would pretty much rule out Barcelona from the running, considering that the Blaugrana are in a dire state financially and do not have the means to spend that much at this point.

Furthermore, Xavi Hernandez’s side already has Robert Lewandowski as their main striker and have brought in Vitor Roque as well recently to further strengthen the centre-forward department.

As such, it is hard to imagine that the interest from Barcelona in Pavlidis is very serious. Beyond that, it must also be remembered that the Catalans need to strengthen other areas of the pitch, and given the situation, it is unlikely they will spend €25 million or more on a striker.

Pavlidis’ contract with AZ expires in 2025, meaning he will enter the final year of his deal in the summer. But if he carries on in this vein of form, he would still command a sizeable fee.
