Daily Schmankerl: Manchester City might have Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich already lined up; A swap deal for FC Barcelona and Manchester United?; PSG to sell Nordi Mukiele?; James Rodriguez still looking for a new home; and MORE!

As Bayern Munich struggles to nail down its next coach, Joshua Kimmich’s future in Bavaria might be growing more tenuous by the day.

Manchester City — led by Kimmich’s old boss Pep Guardiola — seems to be at the forefront of a strong pursuit. However, the report seems to be predicated on Thomas Tuchel remaining as head coach, which was squashed (again!) on Friday:

Manchester City have reportedly been handed a ‘major boost’ as they attempt to sign Joshua Kimmich, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has been with Bayern Munich since signing for them from German rivals RB Leipzig in 2015.

Kimmich’s current contract is due to expire in 2025 and several Premier League sides are monitoring his situation as Bayern Munich consider whether to cash in this summer. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City are understood to be among his possible destinations.

According to a report from HITC, this development has ‘handed Man City a major boost’ as they are ‘one step closer’ to signing Kimmich. Kimmich is said to be ‘of serious interest to City ahead of the summer transfer window’. It is noted that ‘there has been little movement on an extension in recent times, either, and that freeze will not thaw any quicker if Bayern opts to retain the services of Tuchel through to 2024/25’.

Maybe just as important as who the coach is personality-wise for Kimmich is what position the coach would envision for the Germany international. It was thought that Kimmich wanted to return to the central midfield, but recent reports indicated that the 29-year-old would be okay with continuing onward as a right-back.

One of the most immature players in the history of Bayern Munich just keeps making his imprint at every club he plays for:

Bayern Munich’s season is over.

With one game left of the season at the time that this podcast has dropped, fans are peering toward the summer transfer window and wondering how different this roster might look by September.

We’ve got thought on that and a whole lot more so let’s get to it and see what we have in tap for this episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

  • Wait, Thomas Tuchel is coming back? It sure looks like it.
  • The veto power “rule” at Bayern Munich is wreaking havoc.
  • What players could exit if Tuchel comes back.
  • Why in the world did the DFB opt to release its roster in such a haphazard manner?
  • Speaking of the German national team roster, let’s talk about that roster drop. Did Julian Nagelsmann get it right?

When asked why he selected Bayern Munich over other clubs, Nestory Irankunda said that the Bavarians had a defined plan for him:

Irankunda’s choice of Bayern was made largely because of the plan the club had for him. Despite the managerial situation, Irankunda says he trusts what the club has in stall for him. He’s started German lessons, although he admits he’s “struggling a bit.”

Sometimes, we see transfer rumors and think they could be plausible. Then we see stuff like this involving FC Barcelona and Manchester United:

Manchester United have made a bid worth £47m plus Mason Mount to sign Barcelona center-back Ronald Araújo, with the Red Devils’ new owners ready to cut ties with the England midfielder after just one season.

It seems as if Araújo is a popular figure (Bayern Munich is reportedly interested), but Mount + a big fee seems sort of…unlikely to be enough to convince Barca to let him walk.

Bayern Munich will close out its season with an away trip to Sinsheim to face off with a very up-and-down Hoffenheim squad.

For the Bavarians, the match will conclude an extremely odd season which saw a little bit of hope spattered in with a lot of frustration. All that said, the season is coming to a conclusion, Bayern Munich is trophyless, and the club will undergo more changes this summer.

Here is what we have on tap for this last episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show for this Bundesliga season:

  • A look at the recent league form of both clubs.
  • Updates on injured Bayern Munich players.
  • A guess at Thomas Tuchel’s potential starting XI.
  • A prediction on the match.

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala is hoping to be fully healthy for the EUROs and if he is, the youngster expects Spain to be a real handful.

“I think you have some of the best young players in Europe: Lamine, Gavi, although he is injured, Cubarsí…I watched Lamine Yamal a bit and he seems like an extraordinary player. And then Spain has quality players in the midfield like Pedri. Spain is a team that must always be respected,” said Musiala.

Paris Saint-Germain could be looking to unload one-time Bayern Munich transfer target Nordi Mukiele:

Paris Saint-Germain blocked Nordi Mukiele’s (26) departure when Bayern Munich and Chelsea came sniffing in January, however, they won’t block the Frenchman from an exit this summer, according to a report from L’Équipe.

Bayern Munich pushed for Mukiele’s arrival throughout the winter but to no avail. The Bavarian club ultimately signed compatriot Sacha Boey. As the window progressed, Chelsea also showed interest in Mukiele, however, the London club’s interest arose late in the transfer window, on deadline day, and there was no question of PSG letting the defender leave so late in the window.

Having arrived in the summer of 2022, Mukiele has never managed to carve himself a place in this PSG side and this season, the former RB Leipzig full-back has managed just 703 minutes in Ligue 1. He is therefore set to leave this summer, with Les Parisiens now open to signing off his departure. The Frenchman is looking to join an ambitious club, time will tell whether Bayern Munich or Chelsea will reignite their interest this summer.
