Barça Rejects Two Offers for Araujo in January

Ronald Araujo is not up for grabs. The Uruguayan center-back is one of the most wanted players in the current Barça team, and despite the financial struggles faced by the club, Barça has no intention of letting him go, as they recently made clear. Back in January, Bayern Munich made a strong bid for Araujo, but Barça shut down any possibility of a sale. The German team even offered a whopping 90 million euros. Initially, they sent the player’s agents 70 million upfront, plus 20 in potential bonuses, but Barça said no. Despite this rejection, Bayern persisted and came back with a new offer, increasing the fixed price from 70 to 80 million, plus an extra 10 in potential bonuses. Once again, Barça turned them down. Bayern’s interest in Araujo was so intense that even their coach, Thomas Tuchel, got involved in the negotiations and personally reached out to the Uruguayan defender in an attempt to sway him, as reported by the German media.Leader in the makingBarça sees Ronald Araujo, who will soon turn 25, as a key player in their plans, both now and in the future. The Uruguayan defender is not only valued for his defensive skills, whether playing as a center-back or a full-back when needed alongside Vinicius, but also for his leadership qualities and influence among his teammates, on and off the field. A clear example of this is when Araujo, who was already being eyed as a future captain by the club’s management and coaching staff, was chosen by his teammates last summer as the third captain, following Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen, and ahead of Frenkie de Jong. Furthermore, as MD published last December, Araujo himself was not in favor of leaving Barça in January. In fact, when asked about Bayern on the eve of the Saudi Super Cup semi-finals last January, Araujo pointed out that “rumors always arise in every market. I am focused on Barça and I always show it. “I will always give 100%,” he commented. Likewise, given the insistence on how his future will develop, remembering that he is in the orbit of renewable players of the culé club, the Uruguayan defender once again emphasized that he had his mind set on Barça. “In all markets there is talk of transfers. But I focus on the club, I’m happy. And I always give my best when I have to defend this shirt,” he said. Objective, renew it Having stopped the blow by Bayern Munich last January, and to make it clear with facts that Araujo is a capital player for the club, Barça will start working now on renewing Araujo. The Uruguayan center back has a contract until June 2026, and is well protected because his clause is 1,000 million. However, Barça does not want to take risks and see the Uruguayan reach the end of next season without having renewed. As a sign of good will and to make it clear that Barça is counting on him, the Barça sports director, Deco, met with Araujo ‘s agents on February 14 in a restaurant in Barcelona. Although the two parties were very secretive after the meeting, it emerged that there was very good harmony between them. In fact, the intention of both the Barça sports manager and the Uruguayan representatives, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Crnjar, is to meet again in a few weeks. So, it is possible that Barça will now pass on the renewal proposal to try to convince Araujo to extend his contract beyond 2026.In fact, beyond the economic issue, which is obviously also important, what worries Araujo most is that Barça has a competitive team with which it can aspire to continue winning titles. The Uruguayan, who has the winning gene from birth, wants to take FC Barcelona to the top, hence he wants to ensure from the club that they will make an effort to aspire to everything.
