Tottenham table €60 million bid for Barcelona captain, offering four-year contract with current salary

In a major update, Gerard Romero is reporting that Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have made their first move to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old’s future has become a subject of debate yet again, with the club looking to cut costs and generate revenue. De Jong’s high salary is an issue and the fact that he has interest in the market makes him an attractive prospect for Barça to cash in on this summer.

Tottenham offer €60 million, four-year deal

Now, Gerard Romero is reporting that Tottenham have made their move to sign De Jong in the summer.

The Lilywhites, who are on the rise under Ange Postecoglou, have offered Barcelona a sum of €60 million, including variables, for their fourth captain.

On top of that, Spurs have also offered the Netherlands international a four-year contract with the same salary that he earns at Barça, provided he meets certain objectives.

Barcelona, for their part, are not angling to sell De Jong, and have even tabled a contract renewal offer for him. But the Dutchman has not made a decision yet.

With the costs of keeping him at the club for the next two seasons rising to €77 million, Barça want De Jong to decide whether he will renew with a lower salary or move on from the club in the summer.

In the latter scenario, the Blaugrana want a sum of around €100 million for his transfer, and Tottenham’s offer falls well below that mark.

Other teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also said to be interested. It remains to be seen how things evolve in the coming weeks.

The ball is now in De Jong’s court and he must decide whether to sign a new contract at Barcelona or embark on a new journey away from Catalonia.
