Barcelona see Xavi ‘the only one’ to lead club project despite poor form

Sources within FC Barcelona have stated that confidence in Xavi remains strong, and there are no plans to remove him from his position, even after the team’s recent loss to Girona that knocked them out of second place.

Adding to it, a report from SPORT confirms that Xavi is set to continue leading Barcelona’s project in the upcoming season.

Months after announcing that he would leave Barcelona at the end of the season, Xavi decided that he has the needed strength to continue for another season.

Confidence in Xavi remains

Despite President Joan Laporta’s evident frustration following the loss, Xavi and his coaching staff still retain the club’s trust to lead the team into the next season.

It must be remembered that Laporta, expressing his displeasure over the loss during a meeting with Rafa Yuste, Deco, Enric Masip, and Alejandro Echevarria, repeatedly stated, “This cannot be.”

His anger was mostly directed towards the players, who seemed to have lost focus after the scoreline became 2-2. Immediately after that, the team conceded two goals without much resistance.

Barcelona want unity

The club now emphasizes unity to end the season as strongly as possible, even though it will conclude without any titles, hinting at a sense of failure.

With only four matches left in the league, Barcelona need to win them all and hope for Girona’s failure in at least one game to secure a minimum goal of finishing in second place.

Achieving this would qualify them for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, offering the club a chance to compete for a title and gain substantial financial rewards.

Meanwhile, Deco and others aim to facilitate the significant changes that Xavi plans for the team, which would involve parting ways with several players.

These adjustments align with the president’s vision, indicating a commitment to revitalize the team and improve its performance next season.
